'Such Is Life'
May 2001 Graphite Pencil Sketch
This drawing has made me believe in myself again. In the time since I first put these web pages together I've had a terrible time as far as confidence goes. Self-doubt is something you get used to as an artist, you almost don't feel right if you don't have a little doubt starting a drawing. But I just haven't felt like myself in 2 years or so. There have been drawings laying on my table all that time, incomplete. I went back to school to fill my transcript with classes I didn't take at music school, ones I need if I ever do teach full time. My schedule shook out in such a way that I had almost 2 hours between classes, not enough time to go home and back, and too much time for home work. So I brought 2 pencils, and a eraser and my old sketch book with me. This young girl was with a family my Aunt Barbara stayed with in Europe. Just as Task, Kindergarten, and She Gets had changed me this little drawing gave me back what I couldn't find in commissions or music.....faith in me.
