Artistic Statements and stuff:
When I started out as an artist my work in the visual arts was a mutiny against the popular stereotype of the time that an African-American artist was predisposed to express afro-centric inspirations. Black artist do 'black' art. this stereotype had, in my opinion, kept artist from truly expressing their talents by limiting them to subjects they felt critics, galleries, other artist, and the public would find acceptable. In addition I was attempting to provide evidence to support the opinion that pencil is a valid medium in the fine arts. My work has since become a transmission of feelings and experiences in photo realistic detail using pencils, colour pencils, and watercolours.
